  • 3 min read

The Virginia Heart Attack Coalition is now accepting presentation submissions for upcoming VHAC Workgroup sessions.

Healthcare teams across Virginia are invited to share case reviews, quality initiatives, workflow improvements, challenging cases, lessons learned, innovative practices, and system-level strategies that can help strengthen cardiovascular systems of care across the Commonwealth.

This is an opportunity to share what is working, highlight real-world challenges, support peer learning, and contribute to statewide cardiovascular care improvement.

Why Sharing Your Experience Matters

Healthcare teams often develop innovative approaches and solutions tailored to their local settings. These can include:

  • Case reviews highlighting complex or instructive patient scenarios

  • Quality improvement initiatives that reduce treatment times or improve outcomes

  • Workflow changes that enhance coordination among emergency, cardiology, and EMS teams

  • Lessons learned from challenging cases or unexpected complications

  • System-level strategies that strengthen the overall cardiovascular care network

By sharing these experiences, teams help peers learn from real-world examples, avoid repeating mistakes, and adopt proven practices. This collective knowledge builds stronger, more responsive systems of care across Virginia.

Who Can Present and What Topics Are Welcomed

VHAC invites multidisciplinary healthcare teams from hospitals, EMS agencies, and other cardiovascular care providers to submit presentation proposals. Presentations can be submitted for three specific VHAC groups:

  • Collaborative Council: Focuses on statewide cardiovascular care coordination and policy

  • Shock Workgroup: Concentrates on managing cardiogenic shock cases

  • Pulmonary Embolism (PE) Response Team: Addresses rapid response and treatment for PE patients

Topics that have proven valuable in past sessions include:

  • Detailed case reviews with clinical decision points and outcomes

  • Quality improvement projects that demonstrate measurable impact

  • Workflow redesigns that improve patient flow or communication

  • Innovative use of technology or data analytics in care delivery

  • Strategies for team training and education

  • Challenges faced and how teams overcame them

Presentations should be practical and discussion-based, lasting about 10–15 minutes, followed by 10–15 minutes of interactive Q&A. This format encourages peer learning and problem-solving.
